Why we built LabSpy

The idea for LabSpy came from working closely with a small biotech lab and watching what actually happened day to day. Reagents expired unnoticed in the back of the -80°C freezer. Purchase orders were duplicated because nobody knew someone had already ordered the tips. PhD students spent twenty minutes looking for a bottle that was on Shelf 2 of Fridge A the whole time.

When we asked why they didn't use dedicated software, the answer was always the same: enterprise LIMS cost more than their reagent budgets, took months to implement, and were built for pharma companies with IT departments, not a ten-person academic group.

So we built LabSpy. Not a simplified version of enterprise software. Something designed from the ground up for how small research labs actually work: affordable, plug-and-play, and specific enough to be genuinely useful on day one.
